CEO: Moldovagaz to ask Russia’s Gazprom to cut gas supplies
CHISINAU, Mar 21 (PRIME) -- Moldovan state gas distribution company Moldovagaz plans to ask Russian gas giant Gazprom to cut supplies of natural gas because of lower demand for power from the breakaway republic of Transdniester, Moldovagaz CEO Vadim Ceban said in a statement in his Telegram channel on Tuesday.
Moldovagaz has recently resumed purchases from Gazprom after a three-month pause. Ceban said that Gazprom delivered 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day in March.
“Thanks to the warmer temperatures and lower demand for the purchases of power by (state company) Energocom from Moldavskaya GRES in the second half of this month, consumption of natural gas on the Dniester River’s left bank (in Transdniester) fell significantly,” Ceban said.
“During a joint meeting between Moldovagaz and Tiraspoltransgaz representatives a decision was made that the Dniester River’s left bank will return to full daily consumption of natural gas supplied by Gazprom starting from March 22, and the need to send requests to revise contracted volumes was stressed.”
The contract between Gazprom and Moldovagaz will be in force until September 30, 2026, he added.
